New Mexico Thunderbirds News Release
Rio Rancho, NM - The New Mexico Thunderbirds have announced that Dar Tucker will defend his NBA Development League All Star Slam Dunk title and Shane Edwards will participate in the Haier Shooting Stars Competition at the NBA Development League Dream Factory Friday Night on Feb. 18, at 9 p.m. MT.
Tucker won the 2010 NBA Development League Slam Dunk Contest by scoring a perfect 200 points on his four dunks. In the finals he threw down a double-pump reverse jam and then won the competition by dunking over seven-foot center, Brian Butch. He will be competing against Chris Johnson (Dakota Wizards / Portland Trail Blazers), Latavious Williams (Tulsa 66ers) and Marqus Blakely (Iowa Energy).
The four players may complete two dunks in Round 1, with five judges each awarding between six and 10 points for every made dunk. The two players with the highest composite scores after Round 1 move on to Round 2, and the player with the highest composite score of the possible two dunks in Round 2 wins.
Edwards, a 2011 All Star Selection, will compete in the second annual Haier Shooting Stars competition, which features 12 NBA D-League stars competing in four teams of three in a two-round timed shooting event. The Haier Shooting Stars contest features six numbered shooting locations of increasing difficulty, with each team attempting to make all shots in numeric order in the fastest time.
The fifth-annual NBA D-League All-Star Game presented by SonoSite will follow on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 3 p.m. MT, at Center Court at NBA Jam Session presented by adidas.
As part of the NBA Cares Caravan, NBA Development League All-Star participants will join the entire NBA family, including NBA All-Stars and NBA/WNBA players, Legends, NBA executives, partners and guests as NBA Cares host more than 30 events during the week of NBA All-Star in the greater Los Angeles area.
