BayHawks Acquire Former NBA Player Alton Ford

Erie, Pennsylvania, Feb. 16, 2011 - The Erie BayHawks have acquired forward Alton Ford from the NBA Development League's available player pool. To make room for Ford Erie waived guard Tasheed Carr.

Ford (6-9, 280 lbs) was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the second round of the 2001 NBA draft. He appeared in 73 games for the Suns over three seasons and averaged 2.5 points and 1.7 rebounds in 7.2 minutes per game. He signed with the Houston Rockets as a free agent in 2003 but made just nine appearances with the team before being waived.

Ford, 29, then spent parts of two seasons playing for teams in Italy, France, Greece and Poland before returning to the states for the 2008-09 season where he signed with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and was later dealt to the Reno Bighorns. In 36 career D-League games Ford averaged 9.2 points and 6.6 rebounds in 26.7 minutes.

Ford played just one season at the University of Houston before declaring for the NBA draft. As a freshman at Houston he averaged 10.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

In 2000, Ford's senior year of high school at Houston Milby, he was named the Texas high school player of the year and selected as a McDonald's All-American.

The BayHawks enter the All-Star break with the league's best record at 23-9 and a .719 winning percentage, thanks in part to Sioux Falls upsetting the Iowa Energy on Tuesday night.

Erie returns to action after the break on February 24 when they will travel to play the Tulsa 66ers.
