Wilson Tobs News Release

WILSON, N.C.- (July 4, 2011) The Edenton Steamers used a big inning to ice the Tobs hopes of delivering a victory to the 3956 patrons at Fleming Stadium. The Steamers scored four runs in the eighth inning that sealed the deal and put the Steamers up for good 5-0. Edenton added one in the ninth to defeat the Tobs 6-0.

The Tobs got another good pitching performance from starter Chase Bebout. Bebout got the tough loss and his record drops to (1-4). Chase pitched five innings of run one baseball. Bebout also allowed just 3 base hits and had one strikeout and one walk. Chase was relieved by Jon Levin who mowed down the first six hitters he faced but ran into trouble in the eighth inning. With one out in the inning Levin allowed three straight hits a single, double and a triple. Al three of those batters came around to score. Chad Girodo came in and allowed a double to Joe Wendle who eventually scored on Zach Stewarts' base hit. After 8 innings the Tobs trailed 5-0.

The Steamers added a solo run in the ninth when the ball escaped Tobs' catcher Brian Holberton's grasp and then the throw on the dropped third strike was late to first and the Steamers had another runner scamper home for the final run of the ball game.

Edenton sent Joshua Branstetter to the hill for the Start. Branstetter only lasted 4.2 innings and was pulled because of an injury right before the rain delay. He didn't factor into the decision. Dustin Quattrocchi pitched 2.1 innings and picked up the save his 2nd on the season. The Tobs have not faired well against the lefty from Edenton this season only getting to him once in numerous appearances. The win went to Jordan Moore (1-0) who pitched one and two thirds innings after the one hour forty-one minute rain delay.

Wilson is now 2-7 against the Steamers this season. The Tobs overall record falls to 16-15 and they are now 1-2 in the 2nd half of play. Ryan Daughtry saw his 12 game hitting-streak and his 26 game on-base-streak come to an end on Monday night. This is the third time this season Edenton has shut out the Tobs.

The Wilson Tobs will hit the road and travel to Outer Banks to take on the Daredevils. The Tobs have the season series lead over the Daredevils beating Outer Banks 4 games to 2 so far this season. The Tobs have spilt a 2-1 advantage in Kill Devil Hills. No pitching match up has been announced at this point.
