Blowfish Dominate Grizzlies

July 5, 2011 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Lexington County Blowfish News Release

The Columbia Blowfish scored double digit runs for the second time this season to beat the Gastonia Grizzlies 10-4 on Tuesday night. Patrick Ludwig picked up his first win of the season in the victory.

Rob Harding hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the first to give the Blowfish (11-21, 2-2) the early lead. Then in the third Tyler Jackson hit his fifth home run of the season to extend the lead to 3-0 off Grizzlies (2-2) starter Nickolas Woodward (1-3). Woodward went four innings allowing five runs on six hits.

Brison Celek crushed a two-run home run in the seventh to add to the Blowfish lead. The home run was his only hit of the day; he has hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games. The Blowfish then added three more in the top of the eighth to put the Grizzlies out of reach and ensure back-to-back victories for the second time this season.

Pat Ludwig (1-4) shut out the Grizzlies (2-2) through the first seven innings. He walked a pair to start off the eighth inning and was lifted for Gabe Grammer. Grammer did not record an out but hit two batters before Benji Jackson hit a bases loaded triple as Gastonia put up four runs in the eighth inning.

Greg Harrison came on and stopped the bleeding to allow Columbia their second straight win. Ludwig went 7.1 innings allowing the two runs on two hits while striking out seven.

The Blowfish return to Capital City Stadium on Wednesday when they host the Florence RedWolves for the second time in three days. Florence will look for revenge after the Blowfish scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off on the RedWolves on Monday.
