Marlins Fall in Extras Again
July 5, 2011 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Morehead City Marlins News Release
Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins did not play a single extra-innings game during the first half of the season at Big Rock Stadium. For the second consecutive home game, the Marlins played into extra innings, eventually falling to the Fayetteville SwampDogs 7-4 in 12 frames.
The game very quickly whipped through three innings of play in around 25 minutes with no score. The Marlins eked a run across in the bottom of the fourth after Joe Sclafani tripled and was driven in on a sacrifice fly from Danny Diekroeger. Roughly three hours later, the two clubs were knotted up at four runs apiece.
In the top of the twelfth, Eric Grabe hit a line drive over the wall in left-centerfield. Two batters later, Danny Gesick followed up with a two-run shot which exited the park in right-center. Those three runs proved to be enough to hold off the Marlins in the bottom half, and Fayetteville drove home with the 7-4 victory.
Wednesday, the Marlins host the Wilson Tobs on Formal Wear Night, sponsored by The Intimate Bridal. The Marlins will be wearing their snazziest, most sophisticated uniforms of the season. Wednesday's game will start at 7:05 p.m., and gates open at 6 o'clock.
