Reno Aces News Release
RENO - The Albuquerque Isotopes scored four first-inning runs and cruised to an 11-2 win over the Reno Aces (@Aces) in front of 8,996 fans Friday night at Aces Ballpark. The loss was the third in as many days for the Aces.
Albuquerque's Tim Wheeler busted the game open with a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the first inning and the 'Topes were off and rolling to a prolific offensive night. The blast came after a check-swing base hit off the bat of Dustin Garneau that found its way into shallow right-field to keep the opening inning alive.
It didn't stop there as the Isotopes (6-3) scored runs in each of the first four innings off Aces' starter Allen Webster. They plated two in the second, one in the third and two more in the fourth.
Evan Marzill (@marzooch) got the Aces on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a run-scoring single that plated Danny Worth. It was the first of two runs Reno would push across in the home opener.
Webster struggled in his second start of the year. The right-hander was charged with nine runs (all earned) on ten hits in four innings.
Wheeler led the charge for the Isotopes with a 4-for-5 night, coming a triple shy of the cycle. The left-fielder drove in 5 runs and scored a pair. Ben Paulsen also had a huge night for the 'Topes, going 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Danny Dorn was the lone Aces (4-5) player with a multi-hit game. The first baseman was 3-for-4, his sixth multi-hit game of the season.
Reno finished the night with ten hits, but bounced into four double-plays, two of which ended innings.
Peter O'Brien belted a solo home run in the eighth inning, his second of the year, to bring the score to 11-2.
Game two of the series is set for Saturday night at Aces Ballpark. Right-hander A.J. Schugel (0-0, 0.00) will start for Reno against left-hander Chris Rusin (0-0, 10.80). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
