Cleburne Railroaders News Release
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Cleburne Railroaders could not hold an early 4-1 lead as the Sioux City Explorers rallied for a 6-5 win on Sunday night at Lewis and Clark Park.
The Railroaders (47-32) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single from Ryan Brett, but Sioux City (45-34) answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on a Dexture McCall RBI ground out. It didn't take long for Cleburne to retake the lead, as a bases-loaded walk to Chase Simpson pushed home a run in the top of the third to nudge the 'Roaders in front 2-1.
Angel Reyes and Zach Nehrir recorded RBI knocks in the top of the fifth to extend the advantage to 4-1, but the Explorers had a response in the bottom of the inning. Sebastian Zawada singled in a run to make it 4-2, then Nate Samson doubled home a pair to tie the game at 4-4. Hunter Clanin cut down Samson at the plate to preserve the tie.
Zawada drove home the go-ahead run in the sixth with a two-out RBI single, then Samson added insurance with a run-scoring triple in the seventh. Clanin again threw out Samson at the plate to end the inning, with both outfield assists following fly balls to right from Jeremy Hazelbaker.
The Explorers bullpen held the fort from there, getting shutout work from Tyler Falwell, Jose Velez Jr. and Nate Gercken. Matt Pobereyko nailed down his 23rd save of the season in the ninth, allowing a two-out solo home run to Angel Reyes before recording the final out.
Taylor Jordan (5-9) earned the win for Sioux City, allowing six hits and four runs over six innings, while Jesus Sanchez (8-3) took the loss for Cleburne, allowing five runs on nine hits over six frames.
The Railroaders continue their road swing with a three-game series against the Kansas City T-Bones on Monday night. First pitch of the series opener is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
