Stockton Ports News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Ports hit three home runs in a row in the first inning on Tuesday night and rode them to their second straight win over the Lake Elsinore Storm. The Ports scored six runs over the first three innings, including a pair of homers from Mikey White, on their way to a 6-3 win at Banner Island Ballpark.
With two on and two out in the bottom of the first inning, Sandber Pimentel hit a three-run homer to left off Storm starter Enyel De Los Santos (1-2) to give the Ports a quick 3-0 lead. Seth Brown followed with a homer to right and White did the same to extend the Stockton lead to 5-0.
De Los Santos did not make it out of the first inning for Lake Elsinore. The right-hander suffered the loss after two-thirds of an inning as he allowed five runs on five hits.
Ports starter Brett Graves gave two runs back in the top of the second. With two on and two out, Daniel Bravo hit a single into left field that scored a pair of runs that cut the Stockton lead to 5-2. Those were the only runs allowed by Graves on the night as he did not factor into the decision after going four innings and allowing four hits while striking out three.
The Ports added to their lead in the third when White led off with his second home run of the night, this time to left field off Storm reliever Martires Arias to make it a 6-2 advantage. It was the only run allowed by Arias and the Storm bullpen. Arias went three-and-a-third innings and allowed three hits while striking out five.
Joey Wagman (3-4) took over for Graves to begin the fifth and gave up three straight singles to open his outing, the third one by Josh VanMeter driving in a run to make it a 6-3 score. With runners at the corners and one out, Lake Elsinore would make two outs on the base paths as Michael Gettys was caught trying to steal second and, at the same time, Luis Urias was thrown out trying to go from third to home to end the inning.
Wagman allowed just the run in the fifth and went on to pick up the victory, going three innings and allowing five hits while striking out three.
Lou Trivino (SV, 2) pitched the final two innings and retired six of the seven batters he faced to pick up his second save of the season.
Brandon Alger, Gerardo Reyes and Trevor Seidenberger combined to pitch four scoreless innings for the Storm down the stretch and hold Stockton hitless over the final four frames.
The Ports and Storm play the third game of their four-game set on Wednesday night at Banner Island Ballpark. Left-hander Zack Erwin (3-8, 5.89 ERA) makes the start for Stockton, opposed by right-hander Brett Kennedy (2-6, 4.66 ERA) for Lake Elsinore. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. PDT.
