
66ers Force Extras, Fall to Quakes 7-4

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers mounted a comeback in the bottom of the ninth
to tie the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 4-4 but fell 7-4 in 11 innings to drop their sixth straight
game. The win was Rancho Cucamonga's sixth consecutive victory and moved the Quakes to
13-3 against the Sixers on the season.
The 66ers (28-55, 5-8) led 1-0 heading into the second when the Quakes unloaded a trio of solo
homers from Matt Beatty, Johan Mieses and Michael Ahmed to take a 3-1 advantage against
starter Zach Nuding in his first start for Inland Empire. Nuding did not allow another man to
reach as he retired the final 11 batters he faced including seven via the strikeout. The Sixers got
an RBI single from Ayendy Perez in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 3-2. It was
Perez' first of four hits he tallied on the night.
The game remained 3-2 until the top of the ninth when Sixers reliever Adam Hofacket allowed a
0-2 hit to Tim Locastro to open the frame. Beaty followed with a double and Ariel Sandoval's
sac fly made it a 4-2 lead. The insurance run proved important. After two quick outs against
Quakes reliever Adam Bray the Sixers got a triple from Perez. Tim Arakawa then walked and
Taylor Ward singled in Perez to make it 4-3. The Quakes turned to southpaw Wes Helsabeck
who promptly gave up a game-tying RBI single to Hutton Moyer.
After a scoreless tenth the Quakes (52-32, 9-4) got to IE reliever Jason Hoppe (0-2) in the 11th
when Beaty knocked in two runs with his second double of the night and third extra-base hit to
make it 6-4. Ariel Sandoval notched a RBI single to make it 7-4. Kyle Hooper closed out the
66ers with a perfect 11 th to earn his second save of the year. Helsabeck (1-0) was credited with
the win.
