Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- In the end it was worth the wait for the Inland Empire 66ers on

Wednesday at San Manuel Stadium as the Sixers defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 5-4

in a four hour-25- minute, 13-inning marathon. David Fletcher's RBI single with one out in the

bottom of the 13 th snapped the 66ers six-game losing streak.

Rancho Cucamonga (51-33, 9-5) led 3-0 behind righty Tommy Bergjans heading into the bottom

of the seventh. Inland Empire (29-55, 6-8) finally got to the Quakes in that frame as the Sixers

got RBI singles from Ayendy Perez and David Fletcher to cut the deficit to 3-2. Then with the

bases loaded Taylor Ward tagged a ground-rule double to score two and give the 66ers at 4-3

lead.

The win would not come easy for the 66ers however as in the top of the ninth Ariel Sandoval

singled against Sixers righty Eric Alonzo to open the frame. With one out Quakes DH Joey

Curletta's infield-hit cue shot allowed Sandoval to reach third. Sandoval tied the game 4-4

coming home on Donavan Tate's sac fly.

Each club had opportunities to score in extra-frames but did not do so until the bottom of the

13 th . Perez opened the inning with a single, his third hit of the game and fifth time on base. With

one out he stole second, his second of the game and 17 th of the year. Fletcher then fought off

Kyle Hooper's (1-2) riding fastball with a blooper into shallow right field. Quakes' first baseman

Edwin Rios charged into the outfield and whipped an accurate, off-balance throw to the plate

but not in time to get Perez who scooted home with the winning run.

Perez, Fletcher and Ryan Sebra each had three-hit games for Inland Empire while Ward and Jeff

Boehm tallied two-hit contests. Righty Nate Fury, who had tossed two innings on Tuesday night,

worked a scoreless top of the 13 th to improve to 1-2 on the year for Inland Empire.

The series concludes on Thursday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com and

1570 AM KPRO.
