Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The early bird caught the worm Tuesday night, as the Sioux Falls Canaries scored five runs in the first frame to beat the Pensacola Pelicans 7-2.

Noel Baca earned the victory for Sioux Falls, improving his record to 2-1. Randy Beam took the loss for Pensacola, falling to 3-5. The game was practically over in the very first inning, as Beam allowed five earned runs on six hits, including a double and a triple. Beam did strikeout six batters on the evening, but the Pelican run-support was too little to turn the game.

Retired in order for the first two innings, the Pelicans sent Dallas Christison to the plate in the bottom of the third. After Christison hit a single, Adam Deleo brought him in with an RBI-double. A groundout followed that advanced Deleo to third, and he came in to score when Guance grounded out to third base.

The Canaries added two more runs for good measure in the bottom of the fourth. Ken Lup and Jared Lemieux both scored on a routine groundball to third. When the third baseman dropped the ball, both runners came in, and the 7-2 Sioux Falls lead would last until the end of the game.

Ulysses Roque pitched the final two scoreless innings of the game for Pensacola, walking one and scattering three hits.

The Pelicans and Canaries will play again Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Clegg Snipes is scheduled to pitch for the Pelicans, and the Canaries will counter with LHP Ryan Ford.
