Eagles Win 18th Straight Home Game, 3-1 Over Arizona

LOVELAND, Colo.- The Colorado Eagles beat the Arizona Sundogs Friday night 3-1 in front of the 128th consecutive sellout at the Budweiser Events Center. Riley Nelson, Chris Hartsburg and Sean Robertson all scored power play goals for Colorado and Tim Boron won his sixth consecutive start in net saving 29 of 30 shots. The Eagles improved their record to 28-5-0 and remain in first place in the Northwest Division while the Sundogs moved to 16-16-1 and fall to fourth place in the Southwest Division. The game marked the Eagles 18th straight victory at the Budweiser Events Center, they have not lost a home game since opening night. Colorado will take on the New Mexico Scorpions Saturday night at the BEC, face off

The Eagles were awarded a five-on-three power play early in the first period, Arizona killed the first penalty, however it was the Eagles All-Star trio that hooked up on the power play to give the team a 1-0 lead. Riley Nelson scored his 21st goal of the season on assists from Chris Hartsburg and Brad Williamson. At the 11:08 mark of the period, Sean Robertson tipped in a Seth Leonard shot for the Eagles second power play goal of the game. Colorado continued their special teams play with their third power play goal of the period when an Eric Adams shot bounced off Chris Hartsburg and into the back of the net. The Eagles out shot the Sundogs 22-7 in the period and had a 3-0 lead going into the intermission.

Brent Kelly made it a 3-1 game with a power play goal at the 11:20 mark of the second period. He was assisted by Dmitri Leonov and Chris Bartolone. The goal would prove to be the final goal of the game. Shots were even in the second at 15 apiece although the Eagles still held on to the 3-1 lead.

In the third period, both defenses tightened up and as Arizona was only able to muster eight shots, the Eagles only had six. Colorado finished 3-11 on the power play while they killed nine of their 10 penalty kills. Tim Boron finished with 29 saves in the contest for his sixth consecutive victory for the Eagles. His counterpart, Chris King played well in net saving 40 of the 43 shots he faced. The Eagles are now 4-1 against the Sundogs this season with all of their wins at the Budweiser Events Center. Colorado will take on the New Mexico Scorpions Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center at 7:05 p.m. MST.
