Reid returns to Scorpions from Milwaukee

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions have been assigned Scott Reid from the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL). Reid immediately signed a contract and will be with the team on this weekend's road trip.

This will be the third time the Scorpions and Admirals affiliation agreement has sent Reid to New Mexico . In five games the goalie is 2-2-1 with a 2.99 goals against average and .896 save percentage.

Reid originally agreed this past summer to a two-way contract involving Milwaukee and New Mexico . Before the season started, the 30-year-old was invited to the Nashville Predators camp in the NHL. After the pre-season he was then sent to begin the season on the Admirals roster.

"It is nice to return to a place where I am familiar with the coaching staff and the players," said Reid. "I look forward to helping the team make the push towards the playoffs."

Scorpions' Head Coach Ray Edwards coached Reid for two years while with San Angelo . The Grande Prairie , Alb. native won the CHL's 2003-04 Most Outstanding Goalie Award and was runner-up for the same award the following season with the Saints. Overall, Reid has played in 183 CHL games winning 90 of them while posting a 2.93 goals against average with the Saints and the Corpus Christi Rayz.

"With Scott returning we will have a premier tandem in net," said Edwards. "David Cacciola has played excellent in net and adding Scott will only improve our chances in the second half of the season."

In 11 games with Milwaukee , Reid posted a 3-6-0 record with a 2.88 goals against average and a .897 save percentage. The 6'3" backstop recorded his first career AHL shutout against Manitoba on Oct. 20.

The Scorpions continue their six game road trip Friday night in Amarillo at 6:05 p.m. Following the game, the Scorpions will travel to Colorado for a Saturday night affair with the Eagles. Both games can be heard on 610 The Sports Animal.

New Mexico returns to home ice on Thursday, January 25 for the annual "Kids Day Game." The puck drops at the Santa Ana Star Center at 10:30 a.m. Those who wish to purchase and donate tickets for this event can contact the Scorpions office at (505) 881-PUCK [7825].

Friday, January 26 the Scorpions will host the Rocky Mountain Rage at 7:35 p.m. The first 1,500 fans through the doors will receive a Scorpions Mr. Potato Head courtesy of Bank of Albuquerque.
