Larson Scores in Debut but Hounds Still Lose to Bugs

The Youngstown SteelHounds had a golden opportunity to move into second place on Friday night but failed to cash in as they lost to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 3-2 at home. The crayfish jumped on top early with Joe Ori's ninth goal of the season at 5:08 to make it 1-0 after one period.

The Hounds would answer back in the second period thanks to the newest SteelHound in Garrett Larson. Larson made a big impact in his Hounds debut with eight shots and a goal at 2:39 to tie the game at one after 40 minutes of play. That would be as close as the Hounds would get as Dan Pegoraro and Dan Wildfong would each score their 14th goals of the season, Wildfong's on the power play to make it 3-1. Chris Shaffer would score late to make it 3-2 but it was too little, too late as the Mudbugs would hold on to a 3-2 victory at the Chevy Centre.

The Bugs were led by goaltender John Decaro who made 33 saves and was the first star of the game. Bossier-Shreveport improves to 19-10-5 for 43 points while Youngstown drops to 16-12-7 for 39 points, now four points behind the Mudbugs for second place in the CHL's Northeast division. These two teams will finish the weekend against each other tonight in the Chevy Centre at 7:05pm.
