Colorado Eagles News Release
Tuesday, November 20; Eagles Add Former All-Star and Camp Invitee, Mike Lukajic
The Colorado Eagles announced the signing of developmental forward Mike Lukajic. Lukajic (luke-a-CHICK), a Mississauga, Ontario native, is a former CHL all-star and was in camp with the Eagles. Lukajic earned CHL honors as a rookie, being named to the 2004-2005 CHL All-Rookie Team, and was also named an all-star in 2005. In camp earlier this year, Lukajic scored the winning goal in a shootout during the Eagles intra-squad charity game at the Greeley Ice Haus. Lukajic entered the league with the now-defunct Topeka Tarantulas in 2004-05; he led the team in goals (33) and points (53), and tied for second in assists (20). He has also played in the CHL for the Oklahoma City Blazers (twice), the Corpus Christi Rayz and the Tulsa Oilers.
Wednesday, November 21; Eagles Lose to Rage, Rocky Mountain Strengthens Division Lead
The Rocky Mountain Rage strengthened their lead in the Northwest Division with a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Eagles at the Budweiser Events Center. The Rage now have 23 points (11-1-1), to the Eagles' 14 (6-6-2), and have won two of the three meetings between the in-state rivals this season; Colorado's lone win came in overtime.
Friday, November 23; Schneekloth's Hat Trick Leads Eagles Over Gorillas
The Colorado Eagles, powered by an Aaron Schneekloth hat trick, held off the Amarillo Gorillas, 6-5, in the first of back-to-back games at the Budweiser Events Center. After opening the game with 24 shots on goal, the Eagles managed only 22 the rest of the contest as the Gorillas came back from a 5-1 deficit at one point.
Friday, November 23; Eagles Announce Championship Ring Ceremony Information
The President's Cup champion Colorado Eagles will hold a celebration after their game against the New Mexico Scorpions December 22, presenting championship rings to players and staff members. The event will be held immediately following the game, next door at the First National Bank Exhibition Hall. All fans at the event will have a chance at winning one of two championship rings, and the second ring will be auctioned off. Tickets to the event are $10 -- with proceeds going to the Colorado Eagles Foundation. Children 16 and under will be admitted for free (they will also receive entry into the fan ring giveaway). Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling Frances at the Colorado Eagles office (970) 686-SHOT (7468).
Saturday, November 24; Colorado Beats Amarillo for Second Night in a Row
The Colorado Eagles beat the Amarillo Gorillas for the second night in a row at the Budweiser Events Center, this time, 5-2. The Eagles were able to kill all nine Gorillas power play chances, and rookie netminder Ian Keserich took a shutout into the third period, keeping Colorado just seven points behind division-leading Rocky Mountain.
The Week Ahead
Monday, November 25; Eagles Host Ladies' Night
The Colorado Eagles will hold their annual Ladies' Night at the American Eagle Distributing building at 6 p.m. The night will be full of fun, player interaction, hockey education, food and prizes. Tickets to the event were by reservation only, and a second Ladies Night will be held later in the season.
Friday, November 30; Eagles Hope to Score Against Scorpions
The Eagles will face the Scorpions for the first time this season when they travel to Rio Rancho for their game this Friday. The Eagles are 22-2-4 all-time against the Scorpions, 9-2-1 in New Mexico. Their .857 winning percentage against the Scorpions is their highest against any team that they have played at least 11 times.
Saturday & Sunday, December 1 & 2; Back-to-Back Matches on Back-to-Back Weekends with Amarillo
After back-to-back games against the Gorillas at the BEC last weekend, the Eagles will do the same this weekend in Amarillo. Not only that, but the Eagles will play a rare Sunday game (puck-drop is at 5:05), one of only four for them this season. The game Saturday night begins at 6:05 MST. Colorado has a losing record all-time in Amarillo at 3-5-1, and lost their only meeting there this season in a shootout.
Stats & Streaks
Special Points - Captain Greg Pankewicz leads the Eagles in both special teams points and multi-point games. Through his first 14 games this season, the veteran right winger has 10 power play points (3-7-10) and has tallied at least two points in half of those 14 games. In his seven multi-point point games, he's registered 18 points (6-12-18).
Safe (with a lead) at Second - When the Eagles are tied or leading after two periods of play, they have a 6-0-1 record. Moreover, they're 4-0-0 when leading after the first. However, when Colorado is trailing after the second frame, they're just 1-5-1.
Four or More - The Eagles are 6-1-2 when scoring at least four goals. They're 1-0-1 when scoring four, 2-0-1 when scoring five and 3-1-0 when scoring six or more. Their only regulation loss in that bunch came opening weekend, when they dropped a 7-6 decision in Arizona. The two overtime losses came via shootouts -- one in Arizona and the other in Amarillo. On the other hand, Colorado is 1-4-0 when failing to reach four scores.
SCOREpions - The Eagles have scored more goals against the Scorpions than any other franchise (128); second place on that list is Tulsa at 107 tallies. With 128 goals in 28 games against New Mexico, Colorado averages 4.6 goals per game.
Hats Off - Last week against the Gorillas, defenseman Aaron Schneekloth scored the first hat trick by an Eagles defender in franchise history. The three-point night also pushed him into a tie for second place in scoring among all CHL defensemen (7-10-17).
Road Woes in Amarillo - Despite their 13-5-2 overall record against the Gorillas, the Eagles are just 3-5-1 on the road in the series. That leaves their record at the Budweiser Events Center against the Gorillas at 10-0-1.
