Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

Welcome Home

The Youngstown SteelHounds finally had their first opportunity to play in front of their own fans last weekend as they hosted the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the Chevrolet Centre. Friday night over 4,500 fans saw the Hounds comeback to defeat the Bugs in overtime by a score of 4-3. Joel Irving had both the game tying and winning goals for Youngstown. The Hounds are now 3-0-0 in home openers. Saturday night saw the Mudbugs score three goals in a span of 2:46 as they handed Youngstown a 4-2 defeat. It was only the second loss in regulation this season for Youngstown as they are now 13-2-1 (27 points).

What's on Tap: Welcome Back to the Road

The Hounds return to the road for a five game trip that starts on Friday night when they take on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at 8:05. Saturday night at 8:05 it is another divisional contest when they visit the Texas Brahmas. Sunday afternoon the Hounds visit the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees with a 5:05 start. The Hounds will finish the trip the following weekend with back-to-back games against the Mississippi RiverKings. All SteelHounds games are available on SteelHounds.com and ESPN Radio 1240. Youngstown is an impressive 12-1-1 on the road.

Give it to the Big Fella'

Joel Irving may have left the biggest impression on the SteelHounds faithful as he had three goals and an assist in the two games. Friday night he tied the game at three with 12:49 to play and then he scored the game winner in overtime. Saturday night Irving put the Hounds on top as he scored a shorthanded goal with 34 seconds left in the first period. He has seven goals and nine assists for the season.

Tough Second Period

If the SteelHounds have an Achilles heel it may be the second period. The middle frame is the only period in which the Hounds have been outscored this season. The Hounds have topped opponents in the first period scoring 18 goals to 12 and in the third period by registering 25 goals to their opponents 10 but when it comes to the second period the Hounds have been outscored 16-14. Both Hounds losses were the result of big second periods as Mississippi scored four unanswered back on November 16th while the Mudbugs registered three in their win on Saturday night.

Back in a Little Bit

The Hounds may be going back on the road but they will be home soon as they will host the Texas Brahmas on Wednesday, December 12th, Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th with 7:05pm starts for all three games. Friday the first 500 kids under 12 years old will receive a SteelHounds jersey compliments of Armstrong. Saturday night it is the "Teddy Bear Toss" to help support Toys for Tots. Single game tickets are on sale now for as little as $8 with great group rates available. Season tickets are still on sale for as little as $42 per month.
