DeCaro Named CHL Goaltender of the Week

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Central Hockey League has named John DeCaro of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs as its Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week. In two starts last week, DeCaro was 2-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and a .943 saves percentage.
Tuesday night against Corpus Christi , DeCaro surrendered a powerplay goal to the Rayz only 2:43 into the game, but it was the last one they would get. He shut down Corpus Christi for the final 57:17 of the contest and stopped 23 of 24 shots in a 2-1 Mudbugs victory.
Then on Friday night against Youngstown , DeCaro turned in a stellar performance against the CHL's top team. The Marysville, Washington native made a number of excellent saves, giving up only a breakaway goal to Joel Irving and a powerplay goal to Kevin Jarman of Youngstown . In total, DeCaro stopped 27 shots in the win, including 12 of 13 in the third period as the Mudbugs defeated the SteelHounds 4-2.
After those two victories, DeCaro has now won his last five starts and advanced his record to 5-3-1 on the season. His goals-against average of 1.88 is good for third best in the CHL and his .930 saves percentage is second best. DeCaro posted back-to-back shutouts of Tulsa and Mississippi earlier in November, recording a shutout streak of 135:02 during that time. DeCaro and Ken Carroll teamed up for a CHL record overall shutout streak of 218:57 between November 3rd and 17th.
Last season, DeCaro was named the CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender for his rookie year. He was also named to the 2007 All-CHL team, CHL All-Rookie team, and he played in the 2007 CHL All-Star Game.
