Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Governors' Cup champion Colorado Eagles announced today the signing of two players with local national championship ties. Kevin Ulanski, part of the University of Denver's back-to-back national championship teams in 2004 & 2005, will return to the team after a stellar first season in the league. Also, rookie Derek Hansberry, a native of Arvada, Colo. who once helped his Midget team win two Silver Stick national championships, will join the Eagles at camp with hopes of making the 2009-10 roster.
Ulanski will be entering his 5th season as a pro and second in a row with the Eagles. The Madison, Wisc. native made quite an impact in his first season, ranking second on the team in points (83) and tying for the league lead in assists (59). He also ranked second on the Eagles roster with six game-winning goals.
The 5-foot-11-inch, 190-pound winger was also named one of three forwards on the All-CHL Team and was voted by his peers as the league's Best Defensive Forward. Ulanski led all CHL forwards with a plus/minus rating of +37 and teamed up with linemate Riley Nelson to form the league's top penalty-killing duo (each putting up 10 short handed points, Ulanski leading the CHL with six assists). He added 14 points (5-9-14) -- including a shorthanded goal and assist -- in 15 playoff games.
Hansberry -- also a consistent scorer with good two-way play -- will come to camp after four very successful seasons at NCAA Division III University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The Centennial State native excelled both on the ice and in the classroom, racking up numerous team and scholastic honors while putting up 131 points (74-57-131) in 110 college games.
He was named his team's MVP twice in four years -- his freshman and senior seasons -- and led the team in goals three times and points twice. He also led the Falcons in power-play goals each season, short-handed goals twice and game-winning goals three times. Hansberry earned All-NCHA First Team honors in each of his four collegiate seasons.
His on-ice success was mirrored off the ice as well as Hansberry was named to the academic All-NCHA team three times while carrying a cumulative GPA of 3.88 and earning numerous scholastic awards and honors.
The 2009-10 regular season starts with a President's Cup finals rematch against the Texas Brahmas on Friday, October 16. Tickets for all of this season's games will go on sale Saturday, September 19 at 10 a.m. and can be purchased at the Budweiser Events Center box office, www.ComcastTix.com, 1-877-544-TIXX (8499), the Eagles Office in Water Valley or through any ComcastTIX Outlet.
