Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League announced today that they have added defensemen Thomas Roussel (ROO-sell) and Marek Jancek (mair-eck jan-seck) to their roster for the upcoming 2009-10 campaign. Roussel and Jancek both played in France last season.
Roussel has skated in France his entire playing career. The 6-foot, 187-pound d-man has appeared in 140 regular season contests with Amiens, recording eight goals, 23 assists and 221 penalty minutes (PIM). Last season, Roussel set career highs in goals (3), assists (11) and penalty minutes (99). In 33 combined tournament and playoff contests, the 23-year-old has collected eight points (3g/5a) and 52 PIM.
The native of France also appeared in six games with Team France during the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships in Switzerland, tallying one assist and two PIM in six contests.
"Thomas played against the best talent the world has to offer during the 2009 IIHF World Championships," said Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro. "Playing in the World Championships against NHL-caliber talent is a tremendous honor and we're looking to Thomas to use that experience to his benefit with us this season."
Jancek comes to the Sundogs after playing overseas, most recently in France. He has also played in Hungary and his native Slovakia. Last season the 6-foot-6, 216-pound d-man tallied three goals, one assist and 103 PIM in 26 games with Dijon of the French League.
The 24-year-old blue liner also appeared in 12 tournament games with Dijon last season, collecting one assist and 36 PIM.
"Marek's size will add a big presence to our already strong blue line," added Pietroniro. "At 6-foot-6, he will be tough to miss. We're eager to have him step on the ice for us this season."
The Sundogs are set to open the 2009-10 regular season at home at Tim's Toyota Center on Friday, Oct. 16 and Saturday, Oct. 17 against the expansion Allen Americans. Both games are slated for 7:05pm (Arizona time) starts. Season tickets are available for as low as $350. Ask about the 'No-Risk Protection Plan'.
