HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that the team has signed right wing Kyle Sheen to the roster for the 2009-10 season.

Sheen is a 26-year-old Calgary native who appeared in 47 games with the Rapid City Rush (CHL) last season. The rugged 6-foot-2, 230-pound winger collected 18 points (8-10-18) and 154 penalty minutes (PIM). Despite being placed on the season-ending injured reserve list on March 7, Sheen managed to finish second on the Rush in PIM.

Sheen had an outstanding campaign and his best offensive output in both pro and junior hockey in 2007-08 as a member of the Huntsville Havoc (SPHL). He posted 44 points (18-26-44) and 192 PIM and finished fifth in the league in penalty minutes while leading Huntsville in that department. He was also fifth in scoring on the Havoc that year and tied for second on the team with nine power play goals.

"Kyle brings an element that will be critical to our success," Killer Bees Head Coach Chris Brooks said. "Just like everyone else he'll have to battle for a spot in training camp and see how things shake down."

Sheen began his pro career in 2004 and played in 72 games with a trio of UHL teams. He spent most of the 2004-05 season with Richmond, collecting 12 points (6-6-12) and 122 PIM in 41 games.

Prior to that, he spent five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Kootenay Ice and Kamloops Blazers. His totals there include 67 points (24-43-67) and 439 PIM in 188 games.

The Killer Bees return to Dodge Arena ice this October for their seventh season in the CHL. Opening night is set for Saturday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. vs. the Laredo Bucks. The team will host a preseason vs. the Corpus Christi IceRays on Sunday, October 11, at 6 p.m. Season tickets are available now by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825).
