Eagles Fall to Sags on Saturday Evening in Chicoutimi
February 10, 2024 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Cape Breton Eagles News Release
The Sags struck first, scoring twice before the game was barely five minutes old. It started with former Eagle Thomas Desruisseaux, whose attempted pass deflected by Milota. Just 18 seconds later, Massé capitalized on a big rebound attempt from the right faceoff circle. The slow start prompted Eagles coach Louis Robitaille to call a timeout.
The move seemed to have the desired effect- the Eagles outshot the Sags 15-10 in the opening period and found their way on the scoresheet before period's end. Lavallée converted a pass from Cole Burbidge and made it a 2-1 score. That's how the period would finish, after a would be Chicoutimi goal in the final minute was overturned due to review deeming the play was offside. There was no scoring in the second period, but the Eagles found their tying goal at the 5:27 mark of the third period, when Houde redirected a point shot from Brayden Schmitt. However, the game was tied for less than five minutes. Chicoutimi jumped back in front when the puck came to Emmanuel Vermette in the slot and he ripped it by Milota.
Not two minutes later, Jonathan Desrosiers capitalized on a late developing two on one, emerging as a pass option for Massé and rushing up the ice to backhand it by Milota. Before game's end, it was Massé finishing a passing play, from Alexis Morin, and the Sags had a three goal lead.
With 2:10 to go and Chicoutimi's Jérémy Leroux in the box, Robitaille elected to lift Milota for an extra attacker to create a six on four. The Eagles were unable to find the back of the net and the Sags skated to a 5-2 victory.
The Eagles are next in action tomorrow afternoon in Rimouski to finish up the three game road trip as they battle the Océanic!Puck drop is 4 PM AST. The game is available for purchase on https://shorturl.at/fEKZ4 and you can also hear all the action on 1270 AM CJCB or online at www.cjcbradio.com
