In a season that has been filled extremely tight games for the Mooseheads who have continually found a way to pull out victories, it was a comforting sight to see on Saturday as they cruised from start to finish to manhandle Charlottetown 7-0 on home ice.

Seven different players found the score sheet and Mathis Rousseau earned one of the easiest shutouts of his career by stopping 13 shots and Halifax won for the fourth time in five games. The Herd improved to 33-12-7-1 and locked up a playoff berth in the process, joining Baie-Comeau and Drummondville as the only teams to put an X beside their name in the standings so far.

Lou-Felix Denis had two assists and was his usual one-man-wrecking-crew-self to earn the first star. Goals came off the sticks of Dylan MacKinnon, Peter Reynolds, Lou Levesque, Mathieu Cataford, Liam Welsh, Jake Furlong and Jan Sprynar as Halifax picked up points for the 12th time in the last 13 games. The Moose have a solid hold on the Maritimes Division lead and second in the Eastern Conference with a 12 point cushion over the Moncton Wildcats.

Owen Phillips had a pair of helpers while Furlong finished the game with a goal and an assist in front of yet another huge crowd inside Scotiabank Centre with 9,855 fans in attendance.

There are just 15 games remaining on the regular season schedule and the Mooseheads are catching fire at the right time and are doing it without reigning QMJHL MVP Jordan Dumais who is three weeks away from returning to action. Braeden MacPhee is expected to be back from an upper body injury next week.

Next up on the docket is a Friday night road game in Cape Breton before the Moose hit home ice next Sunday afternoon at 3pm to play host to the Moncton Wildcats. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca.
