Eagles Aided with Addition of Akim Aliu

October 21, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL) - Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets & the AHL's St. John's IceCaps, announced today that forward Akim Aliu (pronounced: AH-KEEM al-ee-oo) has been sent to the team through its affiliation agreements.

Born in Nigeria, Aliu's family moved to Ukraine shortly after his birth before settling in Canada when he was an adolescent -- making him fluent in both Russian and English. Just as his background is uncommon, so too are his hockey skills. Aliu was a 2nd Round draft pick (#56 overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2007 and possesses a great blend of size (6-foot-3-inches, 220 pounds) and skill.

The right-handed shooting winger is entering his third season as a pro, having played 114 games at the AHL level and 29 in the ECHL in that span. At the ECHL level, Alui has registered more than a point-per-game (1.17), compiling 34 points (17-17-34) playing one stint each with the Toledo Walleye & the Gwinnett Gladiators.
