Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Omaha starter Jonathan Dziedzic threw seven excellent innings of shutout ball and struck out eight, while right fielder Paulo Orlando 's three-run blast in the seventh was enough as the Storm Chasers snapped a six-game skid with a 3-2 triumph over the Iowa Cubs on Thursday evening at Werner Park.
Dziedzic (7.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 8 K) set down each of the last 15 batters he faced, in addition to 18 of the final 19 batters to earn his first victory of the year. The eight punchouts tied a career-high, most recently matched on April 10, 2016 versus New Orleans at Werner Park. Storm Chasers reliever Andres Machado (0.2 IP, H, 2 R, ER, BB, K) received the hold, while Brandon Maurer (1.1 IP, H, K) notched the save.
Iowa starter Kyle Ryan (5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 4 K) tossed five shutout frames of his own, yet did not factor in the final decisions. I-Cubs righty Preston Morrison (2.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K) ultimately suffered the defeat.
The scoreless draw was burst in the seventh, when Orlando bashed his second big fly of the year for Omaha to left, putting the Storm Chasers up 3-0. Iowa then immediately answered with two tallies in the eighth, however Omaha was able to hold off the I-Cubs charge and snap a six-game skid. The Storm Chasers had also fallen in seven straight home tilts prior to Thursday's win.
Omaha CF Billy Burns (2-2, R) and LF Jack Lopez (2-4) each posted two-hit efforts in the victory, while Iowa 1B Efren Navarro (2-4, 2B, RBI) was the lone batter to tally two knocks on his side. C Cam Gallagher continued his strong hitting stretch with a single and has now recorded a knock in nine of 11 contests with the Storm Chasers.
The two squads are set to complete their four-game set on Friday evening at Werner Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm CT. Omaha is expected to send RHP Heath Fillmyer (2-2, 5.46) to the hill, with RHP Duane Underwood Jr. (1-3, 3.25) anticipated to get the nod for Iowa.
Tickets are still available for that game and all Storm Chasers contests throughout the 2018 season, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
