Tacoma Rainiers News Release
EL PASO, Texas - The Tacoma Rainiers (16-18) saw their three-game win streak snapped on an 11-3 loss to the El Paso Chihuahuas (19-16) on Thursday night at Southwest University Park.
Designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach notched the Rainiers only multi-hit outing, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI. Shortstop Taylor Motter reached base twice, going 1-for-3 with a run scored, a triple, and a walk.
The contest went sideways fast for Tacoma, falling behind 3-0 in the bottom of the first and facing an 11-0 deficit after just three innings of play. The Rainiers managed to cut into the daunting lead with solo home runs from Vogelbach and catcher Chris Herrmann in the fourth inning, but still trailed by nine runs.
Vogelbach collected the Rainiers only other run of the evening on an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning, creating the final score of 11-3 in favor of the Chihuahuas.
Rainiers starting pitcher Max Povse (1-6) had a brief outing, allowing eight runs on three hits while walking seven and striking out three.
The Rainiers bullpen locked down the Chihuahuas through the later innings of the game. After allowing three runs in the third, Lindsey Caughel (4.0 IP) proceeded to tally three scoreless innings. He was followed by Dario Alvarez (1.0 IP) and Ashton Goudeau (1.0 IP), who both tossed scoreless frames - they allowed just one hit between the two and struck out four.
A pair of right-handers, Tacoma's Christian Bergman (2-3, 3.69) and El Paso's Chris Huffman (2-2, 4.50) square off in the series finale on Friday night at 6:05 p.m. PT.
