Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
TAMPA, FL. - For the second consecutive game, Dunedin came out on top in extra innings with a 10-8 victory over Tampa. It was a back and forth contest that saw three lead changes and three ties.
The Blue Jays pushed across the first run in the top of the first when Dalton Pompey reached on the error by the first baseman Mickey Gasper that allowed Cal Stevenson to score. In the bottom of the frame, Pablo Olivares doubled and two batters later was driven in by Oswaldo Cabrera's single to tie the game. After Mickey Gasper singled and a successful double steal, Jason Lopez lifted a fly ball to right center to score Cabrera to make it 2-1 Tampa.
Cal Stevenson extended his hitting streak to 21 games with an RBI single to left in the third to tie the game at two apiece. The two teams were held scoreless until an offensive outburst in the fifth inning. In the top half, Dunedin sent eight seven men to the plate and scored four runs on three hits, highlighted by Ryan Noda's three-run opposite field homerun to give Dunedin the 6-2 lead. The Blue Jays were unable to sustain the lead however, as the Tarpons came right back and plated five runs while sending 10 men to the plate. LHP Nick Allgeyer attempted to get through five but was lifted after giving up a three-run homerun to Mickey Gasper that tied the game at six all. RHP Connor Law came on for the relief outing and walked Diego Castillo with one out. Wilkerman Garcia drilled a single that was followed by a Leonardo Molina single that plated Castillo to give the Tarpons the lead back.
Ryan Noda bounced a single into right to tie the game in the top of the seventh and both teams went to extra innings for the second time in as many games. In the top of the eighth, Jesus Navarro led off the inning with a walk. Righty Matt Wivinis uncorked a wild pitch, and Cal Stevenson then drove in the extra inning's runner Samad Taylor from third to give the D-Jays the lead for the final time. Two batters later, Kacy Clemens walked with the bases loaded and Alejandro Kirk followed that up with a single to right to pad the Dunedin lead to 10-7.
Tampa attempted to rally in the bottom of the inning , but scored just one run and fell short. The skies opened in game two and the game was suspended after two innings of play with Tampa holding the 3-0 lead. The game will resume tomorrow at 4:30 E.T. and can be heard across the Dunedin Blue Jays Baseball Network powered by TuneIn. Coverage begins at 4:15.
