Clearwater Threshers News Release
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers and the Palm Beach Cardinals were suspended due to rain in their Wednesday morning contest at Spectrum Field. The Threshers held a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth. The game will resume in the top of the fourth inning at 5 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. A seven-inning contest will follow at 7 p.m.
Clearwater right-hander Tyler Carr made his first start of the year and shut down Palm Beach through the first three frames with five strikeouts. The 24-year-old made his first professional start since Aug. 23 with Williamsport in 2018.
The Threshers offense plated their runs in the second against Cardinals' starter Griffin Roberts. After a single and hit by pitch, Dalton Guthrie dumped a ball into shallow left for an RBI single to plate Simon Muzziotti for the 1-0 lead. Daniel Brito followed with a single to center to load the bases for Danny Mayer, who capped the frame off with a two-run single to left for a 3-0 advantage.
Carr allowed a solo shot from Juan Yepez that just stayed fair down the left field line. Immediately following the long-ball the tarp was brought onto the field with the score 3-1.
Wednesday's game will resume Thursday at 5 p.m., with the originally scheduled 7 p.m. game set to follow the conclusion of the suspended contest. Game four of the series will be played in seven innings. It is yet to be determined who will start for Clearwater in game four of the series against RHP Alvaro Seijas (0-0 3.60). Coverage on Thursday afternoon will begin at 4:45 p.m. at threshersbaseball.com with the suspended game to resume at 5 p.m.
