CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Cincinnati-Cleveland athletic rivalry has been waged for more than a century, but never have the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and Cleveland Barons competed for an overall title. Now, whenever the two teams faceoff, not only will state bragging rights be up for grabs, but these rivals will now compete for the Labatt Blue Cup.
The Labatt Blue Cup provides for positive promotion and competition between the Ducks and Barons. The Cup will be awarded to the team that wins the 2003-2004 eight-game season series. The first meeting between the teams takes place Sunday, January 25 at Gund Arena in Cleveland.
"We're excited to be participating in this competition with the Barons," Ducks president and CEO Pete Robinson said. "We thank Labatt Blue for being instrumental in putting this together. It's going to create a lot of excitement among the fans, and will benefit both teams."
The Ducks will face the Barons four times in the season series at Cincinnati Gardens: March 19, March 20, March 27 and April 10.
Mighty Ducks tickets can be purchased at the Cincinnati Gardens Box Office or charge by phone at (513) 562-4949.
Tickets can also be purchased at all area Ticketmaster locations or on-line through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com.
