Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
CINCINNATI, OH - The Hamilton Bulldogs extended their unbeaten streak to four games, as they edged the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks 3-2 on Saturday night. The North Division leading Bulldogs now have a record to 24 wins, 14 losses, 6 ties and 2 overtime losses on the season.
The Mighty Ducks opened the game's scoring at the 9:57 mark of the first period as Igor Pohanka scored his third goal of the season. Assists on the play went to Cory Pecker and Hamilton native Nick Smith.
The Bulldogs fought back with two goals in the second period. Forward Eero Somervuori evened the score 1-1 when he roofed a shot past the glove hand of Mighty Ducks goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov at 8:01.
Then at 12:09 rookie forward Alexander Perezhogin made it 2-1 for Hamilton on the power-play, as scored his eighth goal in the past 11 games. Chris Higgins and Francois Beauchemin collected assists on Perezhogin's goal.
In the third period Marcel Hossa extended the Bulldogs lead to 3-1 as he notched an unassisted goal just 70 seconds into the period. Hossa's goal was his first in the past 18 games.
Cincinnati's Pierre Parenteau would finish the scoring with a goal at 16:32 of the third period.
Hamilton was perfect on the penalty kill, as the Mighty Ducks failed to score on six power-play opportunities. The Bulldogs have not surrendered a power-play goal in the past six games and have killed off the opposition's past 25 power-plays.
Bulldogs goaltender Eric Fichaud earned the win by making 27 saves. It was Fichaud's first game in the Bulldogs' net since suffering a shoulder sprain in Syracuse on December 26th. Bryzgalov stopped 40 of shots in the Mighty Ducks loss.
Hamilton and Cincinnati will meet one final time this regular season at Copps Coliseum on Saturday, February 21st.
