
Penguins Recall Forward Jason Jaffray from Wheeling

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins today recalled forward Jason Jaffray from their ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers. The announcement was made by Penguins' team president Jeff Barrett.
Jaffray, 22, leads the Nailers in scoring with 54 points (23+31) in 39 games. He also leads the team in goals, assists, power play goals (10) and shots (140) and is ranked among the league leaders in power play goals (tied for second with 10), points (third) and goals (fourth).
The 6'1", 205-pound native of Olds, Alberta has appeared in one game this season with the Penguins, going scoreless with one shot and an even plus/minus rating vs. Syracuse on November 8. He was recalled by the Penguins on Nov. 8 and was later reassigned to Wheeling on Nov. 10.
For the second consecutive year, Jaffray was named as a starter (Eastern Conference) to the ECHL All-Star Game. The 2004 ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition will be held in Peoria, Illinois on January 20-21. The Skills Competition will be held on Tuesday, January 20 (7 p.m.) and the All-Star game will be played on Wednesday, January 21 (7:30 p.m.).
Last season, he was named the East Coast Hockey League Rookie of the Year after leading the Roanoke Express in scoring with 84 points (33+51) in 62 games. He became the first non-goaltender to win the award in five years.
Jaffray led ECHL rookies in assists and points, while ranking second in goals and tied for third with 10 power-play goals. Along with being named as the league's Rookie of the Year, he also earned ECHL all-rookie team and All-ECHL first team honors.
Jaffray was signed by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a one-year American Hockey League contract on September 10, 2003.
He is expected to be in the lineup tomorrow afternoon when the Penguins (19-16-4-4, 46 pts; Fourth-Place, East Division) host the Norfolk Admirals (17-23-3-5, 42 pts; T-Fifth-Place, East Division) at 5:05 p.m. at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.
Approximately 175 tickets are still available for tomorrow's game.
