Wolves Call Up Reinforcements

The Chicago Wolves have recalled defenseman and Evanston native Evan Nielsen from the Gwinnett Gladiators of the East Coast Hockey League. In addition, the Wolves have signed Las Vegas Wranglers (ECHL) left wing Doug Wright to a professional-tryout agreement.

Nielsen, who was recalled by Chicago in December but did not appear in a game, shares third among Gwinnett defensemen with five goals and 11 points in 35 games.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 210-pound blueliner made his American Hockey League debut with Chicago last season on March 30 against the Cleveland Barons, registering one goal and four penalty minutes in five games. Nielsen became the 11th local player to wear a Wolves uniform.

Wright shares fourth on Las Vegas with nine goals and is tied for second on the team with three power-play markers. Overall, the Kamsack, Saskatchewan, native has registered nine goals, six assists, 15 points and 78 penalty minutes in 39 games with the Wranglers this year.

The 23-year-old forward wrapped up his collegiate career last year with five goals, three assists, eight points and 20 penalty minutes in 34 games with Providence College. Overall, Wright notched 15 goals, 27 assists, 42 points and 114 penalty minutes in 131 games with Providence College spanning four seasons (1999-2003).
