Erie SeaWolves News Release

Akron's 11 hits were enough to topple Erie in the first game of the four game set at Jerry Uht Park, a 5-2 final.

The RubberDucks wasted no time as they jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against Erie starter Austin Kubitza. Todd Hankins and Yandy Diaz led the game off with back-to-back singles and were moved to second and third on a ground ball. Carlos Moncrief then sent a high chopper to first, which scored Hankins and moved Diaz to third. Bryson Miles then picked up his first RBI on the day as he sent a liner into right that scored Diaz.

Akron held the 2-0 lead until the fourth inning until Tony Thomas blasted his seventh homer of the year over the right field wall, a solo shot that made it 2-1.

The 'Ducks were quick to respond and they did it with two runs in the fifth inning. Moncrief started the inning off with a double, and was driven in a batter later by Bryson Myles. With Myles on second, Joe Sever smacked a single up the middle that plated Myles and extended the Akron lead 4-1.

Akron added an insurance run in the ninth that ultimately sealed the deal on the game.

Erie made things interesting in the bottom half of the ninth as they added a run. Connor Harrell singled to start the inning, Wade Gaynor followed with a walk, and Austin Green singled to load the bases. A walk issued to Alberto Gonzalez scored Harrell from third and brought the tying run to the plate. James Robbins was summoned to pinch hit for Wynton Bernard, ultimately flying out to end the game as the 'Wolves left the bases loaded.

Erie starter Austin Kubitza (5-8) took the loss on the day as he tossed four innings allowing two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out four.
