
Ducks Storm Back Twice For Win

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 27, 2011) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 7-6 on Wednesday night in the first game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Long Island got on the board first when John Rodriguez hit a RBI single to center in the opening inning. Lancaster tied it at one in the third inning when Tommy Everidge smacked a run-scoring single to right. Two more runs in the fifth for Lancaster courtesy of Aaron Herr's two-run double put the `Stormers ahead 3-1.
The Ducks rebounded to take the lead with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth. Javier Colina's sac fly to right, a run-scoring passed ball and a RBI single by Dan Lyons highlighted the damage. However, Lancaster rallied back with a three-spot in the seventh on Matt Watson's three-run home run to right.
The see-saw battle continued in the eighth, as Long Island answered back with three of their own to take the lead for good. Lyons' RBI double, Kraig Binick's sac fly to right, and Ray Navarrete's RBI double gave the Ducks a 7-6 lead.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Bubbie Buzachero (4-2) got the win after two perfect innings of relief. T.J. Beam (2-3) took the loss after surrendering three runs in two-thirds of an inning. Ehren Wassermann picked up his sixth save of the season after striking out the side in the ninth inning.
Matt Padgett led the way with three hits for Long Island while Lyons added two hits, two RBI, and a run scored.
The Ducks continue their three-game series with the Barnstormers on Thursday night. Game time is slated for 7:05, with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive First Half Champions Posters, courtesy of Newsday. Joselo Diaz gets the start for Long Island against Lancaster's Ross Peeples.
