Ducks Storm Back to Defeat Lancaster

(Central Islip, NY) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Stormers 9-7 on Friday night in the opener of a four-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

Lancaster struck for four runs in the opening inning on Mason Martin's grand slam to right field off Ducks starter Jimmy Robbins. Long Island answered with a run in the bottom of the first on Leobaldo Cabrera's sacrifice fly to center. Two runs scored for the Stormers in the top of the fourth on a fielding error, but the Ducks countered with a four-run fourth to close the gap to 6-5. A throwing error that scored Kole Kaler, a two-run single by Nick Heath and an RBI single by Yonny Hernandez highlighted the frame.

Long Island erupted for three more runs in the seventh to take an 8-6 lead, with Aaron Antonini's two-run home run to right and an RBI groundout from Alexis Pantoja doing the damage. Damon Dues' RBI single in the eighth trimmed Lancaster's deficit to one, but Cabrera's RBI single in the bottom of the frame pushed the Ducks lead back up to 9-7.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Robbins allowed six runs on five hits and four walks in six innings while striking out three. Bremer conceded five runs on eight hits in three walks in six innings with three strikeouts. Peyton Williams (2-2) picked up the win after striking out Joseph Carpenter to strand the bases loaded in the seventh. Adam Wibert (2-1) took the loss, yielding three runs on three hits in one-third of an inning. Ramon Santos earned his 11th save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Taylor Kohlwey led the offensive attack with three hits, a run scored and a walk. Ryan McBroom had two hits and scored a run and also tallied a free pass while Cabrera chipped in with a pair of hits and a run scored.

The Ducks and Stormers continue their four-game series on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It's Breast Cancer Awareness Night, presented by Uncle Giuseppe's, and following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Fireworks Spectacular. It's also a Long Island MacArthur Airport Lucky Seat Saturday! During the game, one lucky fan will win two round trip tickets on Breeze Airways to any of their six non-stop destinations from MacArthur Airport. Right-hander Sal Romano (1-0, 3.63) takes the mound for the Ducks against Stormers righty Oscar De La Cruz (3-3, 4.39).
