September 4, 2021 - Eastern League (EL)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Cleveland Indians rehabbing infielder Ernie Clement went 1-for-3 and made two spectacular defensive plays, while four pitchers combined on Akron's third straight shutout in a 2-0 win over the Altoona Curve on Saturday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Akron took the lead in the bottom of the third, when Will Brennan hit a two-out double down the right-field line, scoring Ike Freeman from first base to make it 1-0 RubberDucks.
Mound Presence
Konnor Pilkington allowed a leadoff single and a walk to start the first inning, but a double play and a strikeout got him out of trouble. Pilkington was on cruise control the rest of the way, allowing just two more hits on his way to a season-long 5 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out five. Ben Krauth punched out the only batter he faced in the sixth. Joey Cantillo tossed 1 2/3 innings, striking out three. Aaron Pinto went 1 1/3 innings while striking out two to complete the shutout, earning his fourth save and first since June 11.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks picked up some insurance in the bottom of the eighth, when Brayan Rocchio singled into right field to bring home Freeman to make it 2-0. The RubberDucks left six on base while going 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
