Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, NY) -The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 9-5 in the opener of a three-game series on Friday night at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Bluefish got on the board early with four runs in the opening inning off Ducks' starter Valerio de los Santos. A RBI double by Wes Bankston, a two-run double by Steve Moss and a run-scoring fielder's choice off the bat of Brock Peterson did the damage.
The Ducks rallied for two in the second inning off Bluefish starter Raymar Diaz, as RBI singles by Erick Monzon and Dan Lyons cut the deficit to two. However, Bridgeport plated three runs in the third on a solo home run by Bankston, a sac fly by Luis Rodriguez, and a RBI single from Angel Chavez to open up the game.
With the score 9-3 in favor of Bridgeport going into the bottom of the ninth, the Ducks rallied for two runs on RBI singles by Ray Navarrete and John Rodriguez to make it 9-5 but that was all the Ducks could muster.
Diaz (10-1) got the win, tossing seven innings and allowing three runs on six hits while striking out seven. De los Santos (3-4) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on seven hits and five walks in just three and one-third innings.
J.R. House led the Flock with two hits.
