Blue Crabs Grab Important Victory

One night after the York Revolution clinched a playoff spot, it was the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs' turn to post a crucial victory in their own postseason quest, grabbing the opening game of the Revs' final regular season series 7-3 in front of 5,255 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Friday evening. The series continues on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m.

The Blue Crabs leapt out to a 4-0 lead, scoring four times in the first inning. Adam Godwin scored the game's first run on an error by right fielder Eric Eymann, after reaching on a leadoff single to start the game. Travis Garcia followed with a sacrifice fly to right, before Ben Harrison and Jeremy Owens each rapped RBI singles in the big first.

Ramon Castro lined a solo homerun to left-center in the bottom of the first to get the Revs on the board. It was his 14th homerun of the season, the 13th of which has been hit at home.

Southern Maryland tacked on two more in the third as Harrison lined an RBI single to left-center and Owens yanked an RBI double to left, increasing the Crabs' lead to 6-1.

Castro delivered again for the Revs in their half of the third with an RBI double to right-center, trimming the deficit to 6-2.

Jose Herrera and Bryant Nelson cracked doubles in the bottom of the sixth for the Revs to produce another run pulling York within 6-3, but the Blue Crabs added an unearned run in the top of the seventh to close the scoring.

David Trahan (1-0) earned his first win for Southern Maryland, allowing three runs in 5.2 innings. The Blue Crab bullpen did not allow a run, highlighted by Jason Waddell's 2.1 scoreless innings with five consecutive strikeouts.

York's Shaun Garceau (4-9) suffered the loss, charged with six runs (five earned) in 2.1 innings. The Revs bullpen allowed only an unearned run in 6.2 innings of work, as four relievers combined for 11 strikeouts.
