Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

York, PA - Leftfielder Ben Harrison and centerfielder Jeremy Owens each drove in two runs, while starting pitcher David Trahan allowed three runs in 5.2 innings as

the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the York Revolution 7-3 on Friday night at Sovereign Bank Stadium in front of 5,255 fans. However, the Blue Crabs

remained 1.5 games behind the Bridgeport Bluefish in the wild-card race as Bridgeport defeated Long Island 9-3 up at Long Island.

Southern Maryland got things going early by putting four runs on the board in the first. After right fielder Adam Godwin singled and second baseman David Espinosa

walked to start the game, designated hitter Brian Barton hit a fly-ball that went off the glove of York right fielder Eric Eyamnn and rolled to the wall. The error

allowed Godwin to score, while Espinosa and Barton stopped at third and second respectively.

From there, the Blue Crabs got a sac-fly from third baseman Travis Garcia, and RBI singles from Harrison and Owens to take a 4-0 lead.

York got a first-inning solo homerun from shortstop Ramon Castro (14) to pull to within three, but Southern Maryland responded with two in the third on another RBI

single from Harrison and an RBI double from Owens to give the Blue Crabs their biggest lead of the game at 6-1.

The Revolution got single runs in the third and sixth on RBI doubles from Castro and second baseman Bryant Nelson before the Blue Crabs plated another unearned

run on a fielding error by Bryant in the seventh to make the final count 7-3.

After that, it was all about the Blue Crabs' pitching. In addition to Trahan's work, reliever Jason Waddell pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and struck out five of the eight

men he faced in innings 6-8. Brian Slocum then tossed a scoreless ninth to preserve the win.

Despite leaving 14 men on base, Southern Maryland got the win on the strength of a 3-5 performance by Harrison who drove in two and scored a run. Owens

finished 2-5 with a double, two RBI, and a stolen base while catcher Christian Lopez chipped in with a 2-5 game and a double.

York was held to five hits for the evening as the Revolution's only multi-hit man was Castro who finished 2-4 with a homer, double, two RBI and a run scored.

Trahan (1-0) got the win as he allowed all five hits and three runs for the game. He also walked two and struck out three. The loss went to York starter Shaun

Garceau (4-9) who allowed six runs on eight hits in 2.1 innings for York.

The Blue Crabs also had fives stolen bases in the game, including two by Harrison.

The Blue Crabs take on the Revolution in game-two of their three-game series on Saturday at 6:30. Southern Maryland will send right-hander Ben Moore (1-0, 0.69 ERA) to the hill against fellow-righty Nick Schumacher (2-1, 2.46 ERA) for the Revolution.
