Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
SALISBURY, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds couldn't wrap up a series sweep as the Greenville Drive squeaked by 2-1 on Thursday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
Brayan Bello (5-6) collected the win for the Drive (16-18, 48-56) as he posted a Quality Start, tossing six innings of one-run ball and allowing four hits and one walk while striking out six. Drew Rom (6-2) swallowed the loss for the Shorebirds (23-11, 71-32) out of the bullpen. Rom fired three innings as he allowed two runs on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Logan Browning collected the save for the Drive, his ninth of the year, after posting two perfect innings, striking out five.
Zach Watson the scoring started with a bang for Delmarva. In the fourth, Watson belted a solo homer to left, his first of the year with the Shorebirds, to put the Shorebirds ahead 1-0.
Greenville scored their first runs and took their first lead of the series in the sixth. After Tristan Casas walked to lead off the inning, Devlin Granberg clubbed a two-run homer to left, giving the Drive a 2-1 edge.
The Shorebirds had a chance to tie the game or take the lead in the seventh but squandered a golden opportunity. After loading the bases with nobody out, the Shorebirds failed to score as Greenville's Alex Demchak induced two strikeouts and a popout to escape the jam.
Delmarva failed to get a baserunner from that point forward as Browning slammed the door shut in the eighth and ninth.
Outside of Watson's homer, the Shorebirds mustered just four other hits, singles from Ben Breazeale, Adam Hall, Ryne Ogren, and Alexis Torres. Ogren and Hall each added stolen bases as well.
Everlouis Lozada reached base three times for Greenville, going 2-for-4 with a double and a walk. Kole Cottam also swatted a double, finishing 1-for-3 with a walk.
Gray Fenter started for the Shorebirds but did not factor into the decision. Fenter tossed five scoreless innings, scattering two hits and three walks while striking out eight.
The Shorebirds now welcome in the Charleston RiverDogs for a four-game series starting on Friday night. No. 1 Orioles prospect Grayson Rodriguez (7-3, 2.94) goes for Delmarva against Yoendrys Gomez (0-0, 0.00) for Charleston. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00. The first 1,000 fans through the gates of Perdue Stadium on Friday night will receive a bobblehead of country music star and Milton, Deleware native Jimmie Allen, presented by Delaware Express. It is also Froggy 99.9 Big Beer Friday presented by First Class HVAC and Orange Friday.
