Asheville Tourists News Release

GREENSBORO- The Asheville Tourists swept a double-header from the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Thursday night with a 4-1 victory in game one and a 4-0 shutout win in game two. The twin bill sweep gave Asheville the series and ran their record in seven-inning games this season to 7-2.

The scoring in game one began when Kyle Datres launched his eighth Home Run of the season in the top of the third inning. Cade Harris singled and crossed home plate later in the frame when Terrin Vavra knocked him in with an RBI single; Terrin's 49th RBI of the year.

Asheville tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth when Grant Lavigne drove in Niko Decolati with a single into right field and Willie MacIver plated Vavra with a sacrifice fly. Jake Bird held the Grasshoppers scoreless over four innings while Derrik Watson and Jacob Bosiokovic combined to pitch the game's final three frames.

Game two belong to the Tourists starting pitcher, Nick Bush. The left-hander tossed a complete game shutout and faced just one over the minimum. Bush struck out seven and allowed only three hits with zero walks. Bush was able to erase two base-runners thanks to a pick off and a double-play ball.

Offensively Asheville struck in the third inning again. Danny Edgeworth and Robbie Metz combined for back-to-back hits to give the Tourists a 1-0 advantage. In the fifth, Asheville manufactured a run after Edgeworth's leadoff double. A bunt and a sacrifice fly made it 2-0. Max George provided the insurance on a two-out, two-run double in the top of the sixth.

The complete game shutout by Bush was Asheville's second this season. Colten Schmidt tossed a nine-inning complete game eight days ago at Greenville. The Tourists will attempt to carry the momentum from this double-header sweep into Hickory where they open up a four-game series on Friday night.
