CHARLESTON, SC - David Renfroe and Henry Ramos launched two-run homers for the Greenville Drive, and they went on to defeat the Charleston RiverDogs 9-6 in South Atlantic League action at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park with 4,598 in attendance on Saturday night.

The RiverDogs saw their record fall to 52-38 with the loss (13-10 in the second half). By taking the series opener, Greenville moved to 44-48 (10-12 in the second half) on the year.

After a scoreless first inning, the Drive broke on top in the second with three runs off starting pitcher Scottie Allen. The rally started with singles by Henry Ramos and Blake Swihart (3-4, RBI, 2 runs), who moved to second and third when Allen was called for a balk. Jordan Weems followed with a two-run double down the left field line and, two batters later, Weems scored the third run on an error by Kelvin De Leon in right.

Greenville's Jason Garcia held the lead through the third inning, but got wild in the fourth and the RiverDogs took advantage and took the lead. Dante Bichette, Jr. got things started with an RBI double to left that just eluded the dive of third baseman Garin Cecchini. Garcia then walked the next three batters to force in a run and Eduardo Sosa knocked him out of the game with a double off the wall in right that scored two more. Cito Culver (3-5, 2 RBI) immediately greeted new pitcher Kevin Brahney by lining a two-run single into right and the inning ended with Charleston holding a 6-3 lead.

Unfortunately for the RiverDogs, their bullpen couldn't hold the lead. Mariel Checo relieved Allen and the Drive quickly jumped on him for three runs to tie the game. Ramos struck the first blow with a two-run blast to right, his sixth of the year. Jose Vinicio knocked in the tying run later in the inning with an RBI single to score Swihart, who had singled and stole second.

In the seventh, Fred Lewis (4-2) came in for Checo and was tagged by Renfroe (3-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs) for a long two-run homer, putting Greenville back in front, 8-6. Swihart tacked on another run later in the inning with an RBI single for his third hit of the game.

After taking over for Garcia, Brahney (1-0) held the RiverDogs scoreless for two and a third innings, allowing just two hits with three strikeouts to get the win. Tyler Lockwood pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth before turning it over to Nate Striz to close the game. Striz worked a perfect ninth inning for his third save.
