Hickory Crawdads News Release
SALISBURY, MD - A wild pitch enabled the Delmarva Shorebirds to walk off against the Hickory Crawdads in the bottom of the 11th inning, 5-4, before 4,981 fans at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury on Saturday night .
After the Shorebirds (7-15, 35-56) staked a 1-0 lead against the 'Dads in the bottom of the second, Hickory (14-9, 50-42) came right back in the top of the third. 2B Nick Urbanus got himself on on an error to start the inning, before he moved to second one out later when 1B Jorge Alfaro was hit by a pitch. Urbanus took third on a fly ball to right field, and then darted home when Alfaro was in the midst of a run-down between first and second after a pick off, tying it 1-1.
Delmarva, though, moved right back in front with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. An RBI single by LF Mikey Planeta put the Shorebirds back in front, and then a two-run single by 2B Jerome Pena stretched it to a 4-1 lead.
Hickory raced right back in the top of the sixth inning. With two on and one away, C Kellin Deglan drove an RBI double to left-center field, plating SS Rougned Odor and moving 3B Drew Robinson to third. DH Kevin Torres then dribbled a fielder's choice to the mound that RHP David Baker fired home. The throw beat Robinson to the plate, but Robinson barrelled into C Wynston Sawyer, dislodging the ball. Not only was Robinson safe on the play, but Deglan was able to sprint home as well, squaring the score, 4-4.
The tie remained intact until the bottom of the 11th. 3B Connor Narron worked a lead-off walk against RHP Santo Perez (L, 2-8), before RF Brenden Webb laid down a sacrifice bunt. Perez fielded the bunt and took it to first base himself, but then tried to double up Narron at second, errantly firing the ball into left field and enabling Narron to take third base. Narron then came home on a wild pitch by Perez, lifting the Shorebirds to the 5-4 walk-off win.
