
Shorebirds Win Extra Innings Thriller, 5-4

Salisbury, Md. - Delmarva Shorebirds (7-15) third baseman Connor Narron scored on a wild pitch by Hickory Crawdads reliever Santo Perez in the bottom of the eleventh inning to lift the Shorebirds to a 5-4 victory on Saturday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
The Shorebirds scored first in the second inning. Michael Ohlman hit a lead off double. With Ohlman at third, Brenden Webb hit a grounder to second to give the Shorebirds a 1-0 lead.
After Hickory tied the game at one in the third, the Shorebirds took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Sammie Starr singled to score Mikey Planeta, who reached on a fielder's choice. Later in the inning, Jerome Pena, who was added to the roster tonight, hit a two-run single to left field to give the 'Birds a 4-1 lead.
The Crawdads again answered in the sixth inning. Kellin Deglan hit an RBI single to score Rougned Odor, who walked to open the inning. Then, Drew Robinson collided with Wynston Sawyer and knocked the ball out of his glove at the plate, allowing two runs to score.
The offenses went quiet until the eleventh inning. Narron reached on a walk. He moved to third base on a high throw by Perez into left-center field, advancing Narron to third. Then, pitcher Santo Perez delivered a slider that kicked away from the catcher and Narron sprinted home to give the Shorebirds a 5-4 win.
Gene Escat earned his first win of the season by tossing a scoreless top of the 11th.
Jesse Beal was sensational over four scoreless innings between the seventh and tenth innings. He allowed just one hit.
The Shorebirds bullpen allowed just three hits and no earned runs over the final five innings.
Parker Bridwell tossed five strong innings, but did not factor into the decision. He yielded just two hits.
The Shorebirds and Crawdads play game two of the series on Sunday at 5:05pm.
