The bats awoke Saturday night in Rome as Asheville exploded for eight runs on 13 hits. The Tourists had scored just six runs in their last three games, but the team went to work in the fifth inning and never looked back.

Rome took the lead in the bottom of the fourth by scoring the first two runs of the game. Ross Heffley hit a lead-off triple and then two errors resulted in two Braves runs.

Asheville answered immediately with four straight hits to start the fifth. Tyler Massey led off with a single and took second on a fielding error by Tony Mueller. Taylor Featherston drove in Massey with a single to right making it 2-1.

Jared Simon singled to put runners at the corners and David Kandilas tripled to deep center; giving the Tourists a 3-2 lead. Kandilas then scored on Brian Humphries sacrifice fly, capping off the four-run frame.

Harold Riggins blasted his 14th Home Run of the season in the sixth to put the visitors in front 5-2, and Simon clubbed an RBI double in the eighth for another Tourists run. Asheville added two more in the ninth to complete the six-run victory.

Vianney Mayo went 6.2 innings en route to the win and he allowed just one earned run. Russell Brewer and Geoff Parker pitched the final 2.1 innings and did not allow a base-runner.

Simon finished 3-for-4 for the second straight game. Massey, Featherston, and Kandilas each contributed with two hits as well.
