Drive Offense Slow to Get Going in 3-1 Loss
June 5, 2011 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive (27-30) arrived home from their road trip to Hagerstown early Sunday morning. Unfortunately for them, they may have left their bats on the bus, as they suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of the Lexington Legends (28-29) at Fluor Field.
The Legends' pitching stifled the Drive lineup for most of the afternoon. Right-hander Tanner Bushue (6-1) picked up the victory for Lexington, allowing just three hits in five innings while striking out eight. Fellow right-handers Brian Streilein and Jorge DeLeon finished the game for the Legends, with DeLeon picking up his seventh save of the season.
The Legends struck first in the fourth inning, as Delino DeShields, Jr. drew a walk against Drive starter Manuel Rivera (4-2). After a pair of flyouts, Deshields stole second base and scored when Chris Wallace launched a double off the left-center wall.
Deshields started things again in the sixth with a one-out single, and proceeded to steal second one pitch later. Wallace again drove him home with a two-out bloop single to right. In the seventh, Emilio King rudely greeted Drive reliever Scott Swinson by launching the first pitch the right-hander tossed for solo homer to left-center.
The Drive finally crossed the plate in the bottom of the eighth. Heiker Meneses led off against Streilein by drawing a walk. He scored from first two batters later when Miles Head ripped a double down the left-field line.
King and Wallace had two hits apiece for the Legends, with Wallace driving in two. Head and David Renfroe each had a pair of hits for the Drive.
The Drive and Legends continue their three-game series on Tuesday with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Greenville will send right-hander Miguel Celestino (3-3, 4.70) to the mound, while right-hander Carlos Quevedo (4-3, 5.27) takes the hill for Lexington.
Tuesday night's contest at Fluor Field belongs to the "Electric City," with a celebration of Anderson. Anderson is the home to many outstanding citizens who have made it the All-American Community it is, and throughout the night these leaders will be recognized.
