Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - After being held to just two hits through the first five innings, the Augusta GreenJackets came from behind against the Charleston RiverDogs' bullpen to earn a 4-2 win on Sunday afternoon, Augusta's second straight in a series opener and a win that snaps a three-game GreenJackets losing skid.

Shawn Sanford was the star of the game for the GreenJackets, turning in perhaps his best start of the season. Sanford (3-4) fired seven innings of one-run ball on three hits and a walk while striking out four. The win is Sanford's second in as many starts.

Down 1-0 in the sixth inning, the GreenJackets tied the game on an RBI triple from Adam Duvall to score Ehire Adrianza after he reached base through a two-out walk from Kramer Sneed. In the seventh, Chris Lofton's double to right-center brought home Devin Harris from second to give Augusta their first lead of the game at 2-1. Later in the inning, Adrianza's second double of the game brought home two more to push the GreenJackets' advantage to 4-1.

With one out in the ninth, Stephen Harrold allowed back-to-back RiverDogs walks and a run-scoring single from Kelvin DeLeon before getting the final two outs of the game to preserve the win. Harrold earned his eighth save of the season through his ninth inning effort.

Until the ninth, the lone RiverDogs run of the game came off the bat of the game's very first hitter. Slade Heathcott drilled a 3-2 offering from Sanford over the right field wall at Lake Olmstead Stadium to put the RiverDogs up 1-0 in the first. Heathcott would go on to record half of Charleston's six hits while Sanford settled down to retire the following 11 hitters. All two but of Augusta's seven hits went for extra bases.

Charleston starter Nik Turley allowed just two hits in five innings in the no decision, tying a season-high with seven strikeouts. Sneed (3-5) took the loss for the RiverDogs, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks in two innings.

The GreenJackets send Justin Schumer (2-2, 7.12) to the mound on Monday in search of their fifth straight win against the RiverDogs. Schumer will oppose Charleston's Jose Ramirez (2-2, 5.33). First pitch will come at 7:05 with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50, with the broadcast airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
