GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Greenville Drive plated four runs in the final four innings at Fluor Field Friday night, but with the Winston-Salem Dash's nine-run fourth, the hole was too deep to dig out of. The Drive fell 10-4, dropping to a 3-1 series deficit.
Drive starter Wyatt Olds (0-2) was charged with the loss after surrendering eight runs (six earned) in 3.1 innings of work. He tallied seven punchouts.
Dash reliever Jesus Valles (1-0) earned the win after tossing 3.0 innings as the first arm out of the bullpen and allowing two runs.
Matthew Lugo and Ceddane Rafaela led the Greenville offense, each posting two-hit efforts. Both of Lugo's base knocks were doubles. Stephen Scott totaled Greenville's only multi-RBI night, driving in two runs. Nick Decker showed some pop by drilling a solo long ball to straightaway center.
Winston-Salem struck first with a solo home run in the top of the second.
A couple innings later, the Dash really began to roll. An RBI single kicked off the scoring in the top of the fourth. A fielding error allowed another run to come home, and then a two-run double extended the lead. An RBI groundout followed by a two-run homer capped off the inning, making Winston-Salem's advantage 10-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Drive bats began to show some life. Stephen Scott drove home Greenville's first run with a single to center, making the score 10-1.
An inning later, Nick Decker launched a solo shot over the wall in center to chip away a little more. The deficit was 10-2.
The Drive plated a pair in the bottom of the eighth, the first run scoring by way of a Nicholas Northcut RBI single to left. Scott then lifted a sacrifice fly to bring in one more run, but the comeback efforts had started a little too late for Greenville. A scoreless ninth sealed the final, a 10-4 loss for the Drive.
Greenville will be back in action at Fluor Field tomorrow night for game five of the six-game series. The Drive will be taking the field as the Ranas de Rio de Greenville as part of Minor League Baseball's Copa de la Diversion.
