Dragons Scorch Loons in Series Finale

Great Lakes Loons News Release

DAYTON, Ohio - Dayton's offense erupted with consecutive five-run innings, and right-hander Hunter Greene threw six strong innings as the Dragons soundly defeated Great Lakes 11-1 at Fifth Third Field on Wednesday night before a crowd of 7,908.

Cruel coincidence saw the Loons lose their 11th straight game by an 11-1 score. The skid is the longest in franchise history and tops the 2017 team that lost 10 straight from July 6-16.

Darrell Miller, Jr. drove in the only run of the game for the Loons on an RBI double in the fifth inning to make the score 10-1. The Loons' catcher enjoyed a fine series against Dayton and batted 5-for-12 with two doubles and three RBI. His RBI knock on Wednesday was the only blemish on Greene's line.

The second overall pick in the 2017 draft established his fastball command low and away to the Loons' righty-heavy lineup throughout his 14th start of the season. Mixing his breaking ball when necessary, Greene allowed four hits, two walks and struck out seven to net his second win of the season. The 18-year-old right-hander notched 100-mph twice and looked like a different pitcher than the one tagged for four runs and seven hits by the Loons on May 18.

If anything, Greene's own offense stalled his rhythm more than the Loons' bats. The Dragons' quickly ruined a solid start by Loons' right-hander Andre Jackson with a five-run third inning that Jackson did not survive. A two-run home run by Andy Sugilio punctuated Dayton's first big frame.

Reliever Luis Pasen struggled to establish his command in the fourth, and Dayton feasted. The Loons' right-hander faced six batters in the fourth without obtaining an out and allowed four hits, five runs with a walk, a hit batter and a wild pitch. Dayton led 10-0 after four innings.

The Loons have 13 straight on the road, but return to Dow Diamond on Thursday for the first time since June 14 to open a seven-game homestand. First pitch against the Lansing Lugnuts is at 7:05 p.m. EDT.

The Great Lakes Loons have been the Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007. Dow Diamond serves as the team's home and also houses the Michigan Baseball Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, and ESPN 100.9-FM.
