Kane County Cougars News Release
Peoria, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars (38-38, 3-4) dropped the final game of a three-game series with a 3-2 loss against the Peoria Chiefs (44-33, 5-2) at Dozer Park on Wednesday night.
For the fourth straight day, the Cougars scored a first inning run. Gabriel Maciel led off the inning with a walk. Jazz Chisholm singled to put runners at the corners with no one out. The next batter, Ernie De La Trinidad, singled to left field to plate the game's first run. In the bottom of the third, Cougar starter Mack Lemieux walked back-to-back batters with one out. The next batter, Irving Lopez, was hit in the head with a pitch for the second time in the game. With the bases loaded, Elehuris Montero singled to left field to tie the game, 1-1.
In the top of the fifth inning, Chiefs' starter Johan Oviedo threw a pitch over Jazz Chisholm's head and was ejected from the game. The Cougars didn't do any damage against the Peoria bullpen until the ninth inning. The Chiefs took the lead on Bryce Denton's solo homer in the sixth. The Chiefs added insurance on a sacrifice fly by Yariel Gonzalez in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In the ninth, Yan Sanchez reached on an error, leading off the inning. The next batter, Eudy Ramos singled to right. Chiefs right fielder Matt Fiedler over ran the ball and allowed Ramos to advance to second and send Sanchez to third with no one out. The next hitter, Luis Lara, bounced out to shortstop to bring the Cougars within a run. However, Gabriel Maciel ground out to third and Chisholm struck out, stranding the tying run at third base.
Cougar starter Mack Lemieux (2-6) suffered the loss, despite a quality outing. The lefty went six innings, allowed two runs on five hits, striking out four and walking three. Jake Winston allowed one run in two innings.
Peoria starter Johan Oviedo received a no-decision, tossing 4+ innings, giving up one run on three hits. Levi MaVorhis (3-0) earned the win with two shutout innings. Bryan Dobzanski hurled two scoreless frames. Fabian Blanco (5) earned the save, pitching the final inning, allowing an unearned run.
The Cougars head back home to start a six-game homestand, beginning Thursday night at Northwestern Medicine Field against the Quad Cities River Bandits. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Former Big League Hall of Famer Randy Johnson will be at the ballpark for Thursday night's ball game. For tickets, call 630-232-8811 or visit kccourgars.com.
