DAYTON, Ohio -- Fort Wayne fell to the Dayton Dragons, 5-1, Monday night in the opening contest of a three-game series at Fifth Third Field. Left fielder Nick Torres plated the TinCaps' only run of the night in the sixth.

The Dragons jumped out to 2-0 lead in the first inning against Yimmi Brasoban (L, 0-1) and powered further ahead with two home runs in the fourth to take full control, 5-0.

Ironically, in the fourth, it was burly first baseman Paul Kronenfeld who was credited with an inside-the-park homer, while diminutive second baseman Ty Washington blasted a two-run shot over, or at least off the yellow line at the top of, the fence in left-center field.

Left-hander Kyle McGrath kept the TinCaps within range of a comeback by tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Wilson Santos followed by blanking Dayton for two innings himself.

However, Fort Wayne (7-15) only managed to score in the sixth when second baseman Felipe Blanco doubled and came in on a two-out, opposite-field single by Torres.

Despite the loss, half of the TinCaps' eight hits were doubles, upping their league-leading total of two-baggers to 47. First baseman Trae Santos hit two of the doubles. Meanwhile, right fielder Franmil Reyes also had a two-hit game.

Defensively, catcher Jose Ruiz caught two runners attempting to steal and picked off a third. Ruiz has thrown out 17 runners this year -- the most in the Midwest League.

Tejay Antone (W, 2-2) was fantastic for the home team, striking out seven batters in seven innings.

Fort Wayne and Dayton are back in action Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. In a duel of left-handers, Thomas Dorminy (2-2, 4.71) starts for the TinCaps against Seth Varner (3-1, 2.86). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and the TuneIn Radio app.
